WELCOME TO NORDIC WALKING IN THE LAKES
Nordic Walking sounds too good to be true! It's an exercise suitable for people who haven't exercised at all, and yet used by mountain marathon runners in competition.
It doesn't involve months of gradual preparation and gruelling training regime exercises. The benefits are experienced from the first time you pick up your poles. Whatever your starting point of fitness, you will be extending yourself more. The pace and effort are up to you and the rewards are immediate. |
So, what is Nordic Walking? Well, it's really an extension of ordinary walking which uses specially designed poles, in a particular way. By using the poles to give propulsion you will strengthen your upper body, quicken your pace, increase heart rate, and burn more calories.
|
I only ever walk without poles when I've forgotten them! I just can't see the point in exercising only half my body when I can strengthen and tone the top half at the same time. It's like a 'buy-one-get-one-free' at the supermarket - exercise your legs and the arms come too.
Not only that, but there is 'cashback' too - the effort is shared by my arms and shoulders so it actually seems to be less effort. I find hills much easier to climb up.
It's great to be outside and experience the variety of the British weather; all the better for being in the "green gym", the sun has even been known to shine! |
